"Scoundrels", a very good, 1982 release from Command Video and acclaimed director, Cecil Howard. Back in its day, this production won all of the top awards at AVN...and for good reason. Indeed, in many ways, it serves as a sad (though strangely sexy) commentary on the surface-deep, ho-hum, typical, family scenario that has developed in modern times and that, despite initial appearances to the contrary, is fully dysfunctional. Everyone's fucking around on everyone else, everyone has deep-rooted sexual desires that are only expressible through surreptitious, inappropriate channels...and everyone's pretending to be content, yet is truly miserable. Clearly, this isn't the typical setup for a porn flick, even from the more plot-driven Golden Era, and it's these darker (and deeper) themes that make it so interesting and so unique. Of course, the settings and the sets are authentic, which is almost essential for a film of this type, and the acting is top-notch. The plot is also exceptional, though the ending could have been better played...it's a touch predictable and a touch abrupt. Sex-wise, the action is generally hot, fits in perfectly with the storyline, and is captured quite well. Everyone does their part across the boards.
