Milking Time B4 Chapter 5 The Night Before
Chapter 5: The Night Before
It was Saturday evening, after all of the normal chores and duties had been finished on the Island. Jordan had finished another day of her duties in the kitchen. She was more aware than anyone else, just what the following day would bring.
As Jordan settled into her quarters after dinner, she found another note from Tiffany. She was to report to Tiffany's quarters at 8:00PM for her final instructions. Jordan arrived promptly just before eight o'clock, and knocked on the door.
"Come in please," called Tiffany.
Jordan smiled and greeted Tiffany, and waved to Dee Dee and Clyda as they were seated on the sofa across from Tiffany.
"Well Jordan, tomorrow's the big day," said Tiffany. "Do you think you're ready for it? Are you having any second thoughts yet?"
"No way," replied Jordan. "I'll admit that I'm nervous as heck about it. But there's no way that I'm turning back, after everything I've been through so far."
"I'm glad to hear that you're still excited about it. We've already warned you about what to expect tomorrow, Jordan. No one's going to be pulling any punches with you, or taking it easy on you, during the time you're with us.
"But we told that we'd give you a fighting chance to make it through successfully, and we meant it," continued Tiffany. "Dee Dee's got a pill for you to take, which will give you some help."
Dee Dee handed Jordan a pill that was a dark red color, and a glass of water. "Just wash this down, Jordan. By the time you're ready for the Main Event tomorrow, it'll be completely absorbed in your bl**dstream, and you'll be as ready as you'll ever be."
Jordan did as she was told, and swallowed the pill. "I've been trying to just do my duties in the kitchen like you said, and not be too conspicuous. But a lot of the other girls have been spreading rumors that Barocca's got it in for me, and that she may try something tomorrow."
"We've heard the same rumors that you have, Jordan," said Tiffany. "To be honest, I don't think she'll try anything when there's four of us there with you in the same room. If you make it through the Main Event, Barocca may try some type of protest, and demand that she be allowed to give special treatment to someone, like we did to you. Or she may even try some kind of takeover attempt. We just don't know what's going through her head nowadays."
"The important thing is for you to get some rest, and be as fresh as you can for tomorrow love," said Clyda.
"Clyda's right," said Tiffany. "We all think that you can do this. But it is going to be the toughest challenge you'll ever face on the Island. So for now, just turn in and get a good night's sl**p, and we'll all see you again in the morning."
A few moments later, there was another knock at the door.
"I wonder who that is," muttered Tiffany. "Come in, please."
The door opened, and Ebony walked in. "Hi, Tiffany." She smiled and nodded to Clyda and Dee Dee. "I was trying to find Dee Dee, and I thought she might be here, but I think you should also hear this, Tiffany."
"What's up, Ebony?" asked Tiffany.
"Well the last few days, I've been getting a number of complaints from girls all over the Island about the computers. It seems most of them have been running slower than molasses surfing the Internet."
"Is that still going on? That shouldn't be happening," said Dee Dee. "We've got a T1 link for our Internet provider connection."
"That's true about our Network connection," said Ebony. "But if you put enough traffic on it, you can slow anything down. So I started monitoring some of the activity across the board, to see if I could spot where the bandwidth was being used up. It turns out Barocca's running our throughput on the Network into the ground. I know it's going to her quarters and her PC, because we verified and cataloged all the port connections and data jacks last week.
"Barocca's been doing almost constant downloading and file transferring for nearly two days. I couldn't tell what it was, because of the secure lines she has going into her quarters. The one thing I could tell, is that whatever she's getting, it's coming from somewhere in the Washington, DC area from some of the information headers on the packets. That Network monitoring software that Dee Dee and I installed was able to tell me that much about whatever it is that she's up to."
"Isn't there anything we can do to stop this?" asked Tiffany.
"About the only thing I can think of would be to reboot the router, and bring the Network up and down," said Dee Dee. "Not only would that be a lot of work, just before we need to be fresh and ready for the Main Event tomorrow. It would also tip Barocca off that we're on to her."
"The way I see it," said Ebony, "is that Barocca's either involved in some kind of a marathon on-line gaming tournament; or she's getting the mother of all downloads from some-where out there."
"I'm inclined to believe it's 'games' all right," said Tiffany. "And I don't think it's going to be any type of game that we're going to like. We've been trying to play things quietly, and not make a major scene until we absolutely have to. Let's stick with that plan until the Main Event is over, one way or another, tomorrow."
"I never thought I'd hear myself saying this," said Ebony. "But Barocca is getting just too fucking sneaky and conniving for her own good lately. I'd be lying if I said I knew what she was up to. Just between you and me, I hope Jordan really makes it though the final test tomorrow.
"I've taken a liking to her, ever since she sucked it up and finished off her time with me. Because she's been getting special treatment, I'm sure as hell not gonna take it easy on her, or give her any favors, but I really hope that she makes it through with flying colors tomorrow."
Tiffany, Clyda and Dee Dee each tried to remain composed, and not look overly excited or confident.
"Well, I'm really glad that you're looking forward to it as much as the rest of us, Ebony," said Tiffany. "Dee Dee and myself are the only ones here who haven't had a chance to be with Jordan yet. And from what you and Clyda have said about her, we're really anxious too."
Dee Dee knew that Ebony might suspect something if she remained in the same room with the three of them, with atmosphere so tense before the Main Event, and she took the initiative.
"I tell you what, Ebony. I think I know a couple of tricks that might let us free up some more bandwidth on the Network, or maybe even let us find out some more about all the stuff that Barocca's been downloading. Let's go take a look at the Network before we call it a night, and see if there isn't anything that we can do about it."
"Sounds good to me, Dee Dee," said Ebony. "See you tomorrow, girls."
Dee Dee and Ebony strolled across the corridors until they entered the Network room, and Dee Dee turned on the small monitor used for viewing the applications on the server.
"That's funny. Things are back to normal now," said Ebony. All of the usage levels and indicators on the software reported normal activity. Dee Dee had seen the abnormally high activity in the last days too, so she knew Ebony hadn't been mistaken.
"Well, whatever Barocca was doing, it's finished now," said Dee Dee. "I guess we don't have any choice but to just play things the way they are, and see what unfolds."
