An article in the Nov. 22 Tennessean (“TSA's image suffers with every uproar") asks
"How did an agency created to protect the public become the target of so much public scorn?"

Maybe, just maybe, it's because the TSA is as close to Storm Troopers as you'd ever want to encounter. Maybe it's because the “agents” that interface with travelers have unlimited power--power to imprison, power to fine, power to abuse, power to disrupt or totally eliminate your travel plans. "But it's for your own good," they tell us, when, in reality, it's merely the Federal government's latest enormous bureaucracy busily nailing shut the door of a barn from which the horse has long since fled, instead of trying to figure out the terrorists’ next target. I was OK with metal detectors...I could go along with bomb dogs sniffing around. But full body scans and pat-downs of genitalia are too much.

What next, TSA? Body cavity searches? On-the-spot colonoscopies? The TSA is in your face--and everywhere else, too. Come on, folks, we're travelers, for crying out loud, not prisoners of war. Or are we?
